Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry
Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of individuals who share the talent of knitting and crocheting. Our mission is to provide comfort, encouragement, support and warmth to people who have a physical, emotional or spiritual need. Our hope is to let them know that they are not alone and someone cares and is praying for them. We create prayer shawls, lap robes, Baptismal bibs, blankets and shawls, hats and mittens as well as preemie and baby blankets. Our garments are provided to local groups as well as being personally delivered by fellow parishioners. We have provided items to individuals, nursing homes, veterans, healing masses, sacraments, Birthright, the Gabriel Project, and our local hospital and school district. As these garments are made, the crafter will say prayers for that person. Upon completion, prayer cards are attached to each item. Our meetings had been held twice a month before Covid but are presently being held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at Jubilee Hall between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Reminders and notifications are sent via e-mail to members as well as being posted in the Church Bulletin.
Our meetings are very social. Anyone walking by would wonder what all the noise is as we are very talkative. We share personal intention prayers, information, discuss upcoming events and plan for items needed. We share so many interesting stories and help each other with any problems with our projects. We share patterns, community and laughter and act as supports for one another. Our reward is the positive feedback from recipients. The beautiful thank you notes we have received truly warm our hearts.
We began meeting on September 11, 2011. Our numbers are always changing and we welcome new members at any time. We accept yarn donations and would love to have people visit when we meet, to say hello and maybe decide to join. If anyone has questions and would like to know more about us, they can contact Patricia Bordeau at 518-643-8959.
